1,397 BuyBoard® Members Receiving Rebates

The Local Government Purchasing Cooperative, also known as BuyBoard®, announced its largest rebate to date, returning a combined $14.3 million to a record 1,397 Cooperative members across Texas, including public schools, colleges and universities, and local governmental entities.

Rebates are funded by excess revenue received from vendor service fees. If, in any year, the fees collected exceed operating expenses, the Local Government Purchasing Cooperative Board of Trustees may return the surplus to members in the form of rebates. The more members purchase, the more they can get back at the end of the year in rebates.

Since 2006, the Cooperative has rebated nearly $125 million back to its members, underscoring the unique value of membership in BuyBoard, the only purchasing cooperative in Texas that offers rebates.

“BuyBoard has a long history of providing choice, efficiency, and cost savings,” said Brian Bolinger, associate executive director of Business Services for the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB), which serves as the Cooperative’s administrator. “These rebates reflect a commitment by our Board of Trustees to prioritize our members and help them maximize the value and benefits of their participation in BuyBoard.”

Among those members receiving a rebate, many are using them to reinvest in their staff and the communities they serve. “It is a fantastic boost to our budget that allows us to reinvest in essential projects and resources for our students,” said Lynley Marlar, La Porte ISD Purchasing and Contracts coordinator. At the City of Taylor, “We are using part of the rebate to help cover our employee luncheon this year," said Purchasing Agent Sabrina Schmidt.

BuyBoard is endorsed by the Texas Association of Counties, is a strategic partner of the Texas Association of School Business Officials, and is the official purchasing cooperative of Texas Municipal League, Texas Association of School Administrators, and TASB.
