BuyBoard® Purchasing Cooperative Approves Record $15.4 Million in Rebates to Texas Members

Austin, Texas — The Local Government Purchasing Cooperative (Cooperative), also known as the BuyBoard®, is rebating a record $15.4 million in rebates to eligible Texas members this year — $1.1 million more than last year’s record. With this year’s distribution, the Cooperative has rebated more than $142 million to members since 2006.

The rebates show the value of members’ combined purchasing power. This year, 20 members will receive more than $100,000, 68 will receive more than $50,000, and 347 will receive more than $10,000. The largest rebate is $395,000.

“This record rebate shows how BuyBoard’s cooperative model creates value for members and supports responsible use of public funds,” said Cesar Lopez, division director of TASB Business Services, administrator for the Cooperative. “When members buy together, they strengthen the Cooperative and help create opportunities for the public entities and communities we serve.”

Among this year’s recipients, 576 public school districts will receive about $7 million. That includes 269 small or rural districts, underscoring the rebate’s reach in communities across Texas. In addition, 374 cities and municipalities will receive about $4.2 million; 163 counties about $1.5 million; 46 community colleges about $600,000; 51 public universities about $774,000; and 13 charter schools about $165,000.

“We’re grateful to receive this rebate from BuyBoard,” said Ally Dobbins, Purchasing and Franchise Manger, City of Richardson. “It’s a great added benefit of cooperative purchasing and allows us to reinvest those funds into City services.”

The rebates are funded through service fees paid by awarded vendors under their BuyBoard contracts, which offer competitively procured pricing. If annual service-fee revenue exceeds operating costs, the Cooperative’s Board of Trustees may approve rebating part of the available revenue to eligible members based on qualifying purchases.
